Local hosts share their insights

GlobeTrott Travel offline downloads function for your convenience

When traveling abroad, the last thing you want to worry about is racking up a huge data bill. Worry less, because the GlobeTrott Travel Offline Downloads feature will allow you to access all the necessary information like travel routes, images, audio files, and transcripts without using your mobile data.

You might already know that most of the tours include off-the-beaten-track sites, so you might need directions to find them. This is the only time a little bit of data will be needed to power up Google Maps. Good news – the maps can be downloaded for offline use (read the directions below).

GlobeTrott Travel Offline Downloads – coming soon

The design of the GlobeTrott Travel Offline Downloads function is super user-centric, so hopefully, you will find it very easy to use. Below are the following steps:

  1. Select the tour in the chosen city.

  2. If the content is paid, complete the purchase. Content is created by or in partnership with a local host – they will receive royalties from your purchase.

  3. Simply click the “Download” button in the tour preview and the download will start right away.

  4. To access the downloaded tour when you have arrived at your destination, visit the “My Tours” section and select the desired tour in the “Downloaded” section.

Use Google Maps when you are offline

GlobeTrotters are wise travelers, but if you did not know this before, this is how you can download Google Maps to be used offline:

  1. Open the Google Maps app.

  2. Search the city you will be traveling to.

  3. Swipe up for more information.

  4. Click the three dots for more information on the right-hand side at the top.

  5. Select the “Download offline map” option.

  6. Select the area where you would like to download the content for.

  7. Now you are a pro-traveler – the map is now available for offline use.

You should keep in mind that only walking and driving directions are provided. Data will be required if you want to use the public transport option, as otherwise, it would not be possible to access the times of trains and buses that you might need to take.

We see Offline Downloads as almost an essential functionality of the GlobeTrott Travel mobile application. Our goal is to make sure you concentrate on exploring the city using the limited amount of data to share your memories with friends and family.

As part of our roadmap, we will continue to develop offline use, and city maps will be available for offline use in the foreseeable future as well.

Download the GlobeTrott Travel app, select a tour of your choice, and enjoy your travels!
