Readers of Globe Trott, here’s a new place to take a holiday: San Antonio!

Visiting San Antonio is fun- it’s one of the undiscovered travel destinations. That’s not to say that people don’t visit San Antonio, but if people knew how fantastic it was there would be even more visitors. In future years, more and more international visitors will likely discover the joys of San Antonio.

Once a sleepy town, San Antonio has come a long way. It is the home to several military U.S. Army posts and United States Air Force bases. Many of the soldiers and airmen stationed here have chosen gracious San Antonio as their place of retirement. The lifestyle is so easy and friendly.

Traveling to San Antonio is not difficult. Drive in via the highway, or arrive at the San Antonio airport. Cars are easily rented at the airport.

Once you have your bearings, it’s time to start exploring the town.

What can you do in San Antonio?

Well, first and foremost, you must eat! Mexican food in San Antonio totally rocks. Drive up to any cafe, and you will probably be delighted. I would recommend Chicken Fajitas or Beef Fajitas. These dishes cost a bit more because of all the meat, but wow, are they good.

Visiting The Alamo is an important stop. This is a part of Texas history, and of American history, so take a tour. In addition, don’t forget to have a photograph taken in front. (I should stress that you should pack your home electronics carefully before leaving home, so that things like MP3s, DVD players, and digital cameras are not forgotten.)

The Riverwalk is a fine place to book your hotel, or to simply explore during the day. Hotel rates with a river view can be quite pricey, but if you want that memorable experience, then why not save up and spend your money on a r0verview room. Don’t miss the retail shops, large and small. You’ll find shopping to be fantastic and you can find some incredible things at delightful prices.

Military museums at places like Fort Sam Houston are quite interesting, and something that most tourists miss. Entering military bases can require some registration as an anti-terrorism measure, so be patient as you go through that process, and be thankful that such measures are in place to protect you.

San Antonio has tourist-friendly weather all of the year. Summers can be humid and hot, so if you prefer milder temperatures, consider visiting in the winter. Whenever you go to visit San Antonio, I am sure you will enjoy your trip.

This is one in a series of profiles on historic sites dedicated to U.S.Presidents. Today let’s take a look at the Clinton Library And Museumin Little Rock, Arkansas. We’ll share a few insider recommendations for the area too …

Overview Of The Clinton Library And Museum

After President Clinton left office, plans for an official library and museum were put on the fast track. Little Rock was chosen as the location and the facility opened in 2004. While there are numerous presidential libraries, this is the largest. It is situated along the banks of the Arkansas River in the bustling River Market district, with a great view of the nearby Little Rock skyline. The official title of the complex is the William J. Clinton Presidential Center, and it is open to visitors seven days a week.

The Center houses not only a museum and library, but ample exhibition and meeting space. It has become one of Little Rock’s premier destinations for festivals, performances, lectures, and other gatherings.

Specific to the presidency, there are continually changing exhibits dedicated not only to Mr. Clinton but the presidency in general. Of note is the full scale replica of the Oval Office, giving visitors a chance to experience the presidential command center up close and personal.

You will also find a full service restaurant on the premises, aptly named 42, the number of Clinton’s presidency. It is open for lunch daily and brunch on Sundays and has garnered excellent reviews for its location, service, and view of the Arkansas River. Of course, there is also a museum store where you can peruse all sorts of books, DVD’s, apparel, and more.

Exploring Little Rock: What To See And Where To Eat

Little Rock itself is quite an underrated city. The capital of Arkansas, it is within a one day drive of Arkansas wine country, the famed resort area of Hot Springs, and Memphis, Tennessee. Towering bluffs hug the river, creating a natural scenic beauty you don’t find in many cities.

The city is known for its local cuisine, particularly barbecue and catfish restaurants. You can spend a month here and try a different barbecue restaurant every day! The style is distinctly Little Rock, with a blending of Memphis barbecue traits, along with those from Texas to the south and Kansas City to the north. Several barbecue festivals are held each year with hundreds of area pit masters vying for best in show.

For outdoor enthusiasts, there are numerous parks and generous green spaces for running, hiking, or just taking a stroll. One great place to get some exercise in Little Rock is the Big Dam Bridge, the longest pedestrian bridge in the world.

For shopping and nightlife, there is a lively, energetic downtown area along with a few unique neighborhoods that are filled with restaurants, specialty shops, and late evening options. Midtown, The Heights, and Hillcrest are three neighborhoods in particular you’ll want to explore.

The Clinton Presidential Center in Little Rock is just one of many presidential historic sites to explore around the United States. To learn about all the others and to get destination tips and recommendations, visit us today at: http://www.presidentialtravelusa.com

There are many transatlantic cruises that sail across the Atlantic Ocean with New York as their destination. With the city’s reputation as a first rate metropolis with lots to see and do regardless of your tastes, New York is a travel destination that must be experienced for yourself.

Lots of cruise liners stop at New York either as a port of departure or the port of destination. If you want a cheap cruise deal, try transatlantic repositioning cruises like the ones destined for New York. Not only will you get to experience life on a luxurious cruise liner, but you also get to see New York in a different light coming from the harbor.

If it is your first time in New York, then going on shore will be quite an experience. The city is a place full of contrasts where you can find high powered business men in expensive designer suits and then a singing naked cowboy in front of Times Square. You can enjoy the arts if you are so inclined with world class museums such as the Guggenheim, Museum of Modern Art, the American Museum of Natural History, the Museum of Modern Art and many others. If you love culture, this is the place to visit. Or, if sports are more your thing, New York boasts multiple sports teams of the top 4 professional sports: baseball, basketball, football and hockey. Whichever season you are visiting New York, a team is bound to be playing. And after you have enjoyed your day at the museum or at a game, you can replenish your strength at the many top rated restaurants New York has to offer.

While transatlantic New York cruises are a great way to travel to reach the city, you don’t have to go through all that trouble if you live in the surrounding areas but still want to explore the waters surrounding New York. You can book a cruise to nowhere from New York where the ship explores the local landmarks from the water in such ways that even the most jaded locals would appreciate.

Have you ever thought of visiting the beach in New Jersey? If you are not from New York, New Jersey or Pennsylvania than you probably have not. The majority of the millions of annual Jersey shore visitors are from these three states. It can be a fun place to visit – especially if you are not from the local area. It may not be right up there with visiting New Orleans or San Francisco but you will learn a bit about a segment of American culture that you probably did not even know existed. The metropolitan populations of the region are huge melting pots of a variety of cultures. They are all on display when you visit the beach.

One of the most visited places on the coast of New Jersey is Seaside Heights. Why do people flock there? Two main reasons, besides the fact there is a pretty nice beach. One of the most famous attractions in Seaside Heights New Jersey is its boardwalk. It stretches for over a mile and boasts a wide selection of rides, games of chance, arcades, shops and food stands. There are two main amusement ride areas, both with rides that are not quite like Great Adventure but also a step up from a traveling carnival. Haunted houses, small roller coasters, bumper cars, kiddie rides and lots of others. As for the arcades they feature entertainment such as pinball machines, carousel rides, video games, skeeball and keno games that return prize tickets (redeemable for prizes, not cash). The boardwalk tends to attract a very eclectic mix of visitors. From teens to bikers to retired couples.

Some find the Seaside Heights boardwalk and its crowds a bit over the top. While there is no shortage of families that visit the boardwalk here, there is a more family centric but smaller boardwalk you can also visit in nearby Point Pleasant Beach. That community is much calmer and less of what is thought of as a party town.

The second major draw for Seaside Heights is its status as a party town. There are a few bars and nightclubs and, just as importantly, lots of hotel rooms. There are many teens and young twenty somethings that can’t resist the opportunity to spend time on the boardwalk, indulge in some nightlife, get up late and then wander over to the beach to take a late morning snooze on the beach. Enjoying the good life, Jersey style!

A Caribbean cruise vacation is the ultimate deal and if you have not tried it yet, now is the time; treat yourself and be treated like royalty while you spend time on these idyllic tropical islands. There is fantastic scenery, beautiful beaches, and exotic Caribbean island locations; on the cruise liner itself you will have entertainment and a full program of activities at anytime of the day or night. How long you sail for really is up to your budget and what standard of cabin you want but these tours can be add-ons for other vacations or as long as fourteen or more days.

Everyone on board a ship will have individual needs and they can cater for them all, it is your vacation and it can be as quite or lively as you want it to be. Cruise liner owners are aware of this and have different packages to cater for diverse crowds so the vacation can meet their needs of a dream holiday with a variety of entertainment packages available.

It is always a pleasant use of your time to see what vacations on ships are available and see what choice of packages there are so why not start at the local travel operator for some advice. As there are so many islands over quit a large area, Caribbean cruises arrange for only certain ones like Jamaica, Antigua, Bermuda or Bahamas; these islands will get a visit for each type of package that has been arranged so your job is to find one that matches the islands you want to visit.

If your ideal cruise vacation includes partying by the beach or the deck pool, even at a disco well then choose a cruise with plenty of activities. Even though your tour operator should be able to provide information on the types of Caribbean cruise packages that are available, there will probably be more advice to be found on the web sites.

The main difference with this type of vacation is the number of changes of clothing you take with you as there is a greater opportunity to dress for evening functions. These are ideal opportunities to dress up which many of us do not get the chance to do these days so the ladies will want at least two evening gowns and the men will require a tuxedo.

Even if you intend to bring along your children on a family cruise vacation, there are plenty of programs to occupy them and they will not have a dull moment. You can even take time off for a little quality adult time as there are fully trained staff to look after them.

Other specialist Caribbean cruises are concerned with only the concerns of adults that do not have their children with them that can be a little more romantic. Honeymooners and couples celebrating wedding anniversaries can also have cruise liner packages tailored to suit them as well.

As you sail through some of the best tropical islands in the world, you will truly find yourself relaxing. If you let the staff on your Caribbean cruise do their job, all you will have to do is enjoy the vacation, after all isn’t that what it’s all about.

When you think of major US travel destinations, San Antonio Texas rarely makes the list. Ok, it never makes the list. New York, San Francisco, Chicago, Miami yes, but San Antonio? No, never, not once. The thing is, there are so many cities in the US that have a ton to offer, and you can beat the crowds by discovering them. With this economy, taking nearcations has become very popular. You might want to consider this little city with its intriquing history and charming demenor for your next family trip. Heres why:

It was colonized by Spain in the early 1700’s and since then Native Americans, Old Mexico and the deep South have mixed and blended to make for an interesting city.

Start your visit to San Antonio with a little history…. the Alamo. It’s undoubtedly the number one tourist attraction in all the state of Texas. It was built in the 18th century as one of San Antonio’s five Spanish colonial missions. Later it gained fame as the site of an epic 1836 battle during the Texas Revolution.

That’s when Davey Crockett and Jim Bowie fought and died in the Alamo. When you first see it, you’ll think it’s smaller than you expected…. and it is! That’s because it was built as a mission and not as a fort. Admission is free, though you will have to pay for parking at a downtown lot. It’s right in the heart of town, near the River Walk.

If you want to see more of the five missions beyond the Alamo, see San Antonio Missions National Historic Park. It will take you to the other four missions. You can travel from mission to mission on the eight mile Missions Bike and Hike Trail.

There is a map of downtown San Antonio posted every few blocks on the sidewalks making it easy to explore the Alamo and the River Walk.

The River Walk or Paseo del Rio is also downtown. Twenty feet below the hustle and bustle of downtown streets, the River Walk follows the San Antonio River’s gentle bends. Along it you will find restaurants, hotels, museums and historic sites. You can walk along the banks, or you can take a cruise on the river which goes on for a couple of miles while a tour guide gives you fun filled facts.

One place you’ll find along the banks of the river is the historic district of La Villita. It was originally established by Spanish soldiers stationed at the Alamo. In 1835 the Mexican Army surrendered and gave Texas its independence at La Villita. The next year was when the Battle of the Alamo was fought to try and win Texas back. More recently the historic buildings have have been turned into restaurants and also galleries and shops for arts and crafts.

Historic Market Square is near downtown. Also known as the Mexican Market or El Mercado, it’s the largest Mexican market in the state. It pulsates with friendly people and bold colors. Stroll beneath the “papel picado” (Mexican tissue paper streamers). Buy beautiful silver and turquoise jewelry…. handmade necklaces and earrings, belts and buckles from Mexico are here. Find Mexican candies and even buy a pinata to put them in. If you just want to soak it in, relax by the fountain and enjoy the sounds of mariachis.

With deep Latino roots, you will get some great Tex-Mex food here. You’ll also find some great San Antonio Texas barbecue, but their culinary repertoire is large and diverse, so don’t worry about going hungry. Just bring good walking shoes and an appetite for history and fun.
